LCS Laboratory provides air sampling kits and laboratory analysis for fluoride in dust and hydrogen fluoride (HF) in workplace air using National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Method 7902. This method is widely used by EHS consultants and industrial hygienists for occupational exposure assessment and regulatory compliance.
This testing is commonly used in:
- Aluminum processing and smelting
- Glass manufacturing
- Phosphate fertilizer production
- Metal etching and surface treatment
- Chemical manufacturing environments where HF is used or generated
Method Overview – NIOSH 7902
NIOSH 7902 is designed to measure:
- Particulate fluorides (fluoride salts)
- Hydrogen fluoride vapor (HF)
Air is collected using a two-layer cassette:
- The front mixed cellulose ester (MCE) filter captures particulate fluoride.
- The alkaline-treated cellulose backup pad captures hydrogen fluoride vapor.
This configuration allows separate quantification of particulate fluoride and hydrogen fluoride, or reporting as a combined fluoride result, depending on your exposure assessment objectives.
The sampling setup follows the general framework of NIOSH 0500 (Total Dust), with the exception that fluoride-selective two-layer cassettes are used instead of standard dust cassettes. This makes implementation straightforward for consultants already performing total dust sampling.
Sampling Parameters
- Recommended flow rate: 1–2 L/min
- Sampling media: Fluoride-selective two-layer cassette
- Application: Personal breathing zone or area air sampling
LCS Laboratory provides:
- Pre- and post-calibrated personal sampling pumps
- Fluoride-selective two-layer air sampling cassettes
- Cassette holders and accessories
- A detailed, step-by-step sampling manual covering calibration, flow verification, handling, transport, and documentation
Laboratory Analysis and Reporting
Samples are analyzed in accordance with NIOSH 7902 requirements. Results are reported for:
- Particulate fluoride
- Hydrogen fluoride
- Combined fluoride (if requested)
This flexibility supports occupational exposure assessments, compliance evaluations, and industrial hygiene investigations.
