Isocyanate is a generic name for the group of chemicals commonly used in the production of polyurethane-based products: polymers, elastomers (aka “rubber”), and paint. Once cured, the polymer is safe… as long as it is not exposed to heat or simply starts to deteriorate. The safety concern arises from the fact that the free isocyanate is one of the most toxic compounds that is currently used.
LCS Laboratory Inc developed a testing procedure for the evaluation of emission of isocyanates from client’s products or consumer’s devices. During the test, the product that needs to be tested is sealed inside an environmental chamber for the duration of the experiment. We monitor the concentration of free isocyanate in the air of the chamber using standard OSHA method #47, and can detect as little as 0.3 ppb of the monomer in the air. The test can be conducted at ambient temperature and humidity or we can adjust the settings to meet your requirements.
Our chamber is 4’x4’x4′ and can be used for the testing of relatively large objects. If you need to discuss your project or request a quote, please contact us by email and tell us about your project.
