Comprehensive THC Air Sampling and Testing Services from LCS Laboratory. LCS Laboratory Inc. offers specialised sampling media and laboratory testing for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) fumes or mist from second-hand cannabis smoke, exclusively for our Canadian clients. This service is designed to assist in evaluating workers’ exposure to cannabis dust or mist in industrial settings.
Sampling Procedure
Samples are collected using a modified NIOSH 0500 procedure, using personal sampling pumps operating at a flow rate of 2-3 L/min for durations of up to 8 hours. This method ensures a reliable collection of cannabis dust containing active THC in environments where dust may pose a risk to worker health.
LCS Laboratory provides all calibrated pumps and necessary sampling media to facilitate the sampling process.
Laboratory Analysis
- Once the samples are returned to our lab, the ATHC and THC are extracted from the sampling cassettes and converted into THC
- The analysis is performed using an internally validated method using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography with Ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UV).
- The typical reporting limit for THC is 0.2 µg/sample or 0.2-0.5 µg/m³, making this method highly sensitive and suitable for industrial hygiene assessments.
Quality Control Requirements
Due to the extreme sensitivity of our proprietary method, we require at least one quality control (QC) travel blank sample to be submitted alongside collected field samples. This ensures the accuracy and integrity of the analysis.
Important Considerations
This is an internally validated method, and it is not recommended for the collection of legal evidence. The test is best suited for occupational exposure assessments and similar industrial hygiene applications.
