LCS Laboratory provides specialized testing for fire debris, offering precise analysis of Carbon Black, Soot, and Total Dust on wipe samples. This test is designed to assist safety consultants, insurance adjusters, and environmental professionals in evaluating contamination levels after fire incidents. By using advanced methods to separate and measure these key components, our service delivers critical insights for safety assessments and damage evaluations.

Why Choose Fire Debris Testing for Safety and Compliance?

Understanding the composition of settled dust after a fire is crucial for safeguarding health and ensuring compliance with environmental standards. Soot and Carbon Black, commonly linked to fire-related contamination, pose significant health risks due to their fine particle size and potential toxicity. Total Dust measurements provide a comprehensive analysis of particulate accumulation, helping to determine whether the dust originates from a fire or other sources. Whether you’re evaluating the extent of fire damage or managing insurance claims, our test delivers the reliable data you need to make well-informed decisions.

Technical Details of SOP L061

Our testing method, developed in-house at LCS Laboratory, separates and quantifies Total Settled Dust, Soot, and Carbon Black from wipe samples. Each component is measured in micrograms (µg) per sample, providing precise concentration data.

  • The Dust is extracted from the wipe samples, and its concentration is measured gravimetrically.
  • Dust Load: Total Dust is reported in µg/wipe with a detection sensitivity of 100 µg.
  • Soot: Particles less than 10 microns are separated by our lab and analyzed for soot concentration. The result is reported with a sensitivity of 5 µg/wipe.
  • Char/Carbon Black: Concentration of char in the Total Dust is measured using light microscopy and reported with a sensitivity of 10 µg/wipe.
