Planning Your Sampling
Careful planning helps ensure consistent and interpretable results:
- Cassette use: Each cassette is single-use. Plan for one sample per room or area.
- Sampling time: Individual samples typically take about 10 minutes. Most projects can be completed within 30 to 60 minutes.
Sampling Guidelines
Follow these general practices to improve sample quality:
- Collect samples in regularly occupied areas.
- Keep windows and exterior doors closed for approximately 24 hours before sampling, except for normal entry and exit.
- Turn off fans or ventilation systems that bring in outdoor air.
- Place the cassette near the centre of the room, at a height of 3 to 6 feet above the floor (breathing zone).
Outdoor Reference Sample
Outdoor air samples are often used as a reference point when interpreting indoor results. Collecting at least one outdoor sample, particularly during warmer months, can help provide useful context.
