LCS Laboratory Inc., offers quantitative tests for measuring Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in the air that are responsible for odors. Strong odors in your office or workplace may create an uncomfortable environment for your coworkers. Often, the chemical smell is an early warning of potential exposure to s hazardous substance. Even a weak smell can be irritating and cause complaints. Because odor is naturally a very subjective parameter, it is important to have a tool to quantify it. When measuring odor, we monitor it and are able to control the source.

The most common cause of odors are VOC’s. They might come from different sources: industrial solvents, gasoline, drying paint, new furniture, new carpet, microbiological growth, perfume, food etc. This why all our odor tests target VOC’s. We offer 3 different tests for odor investigation. Each of them offers a different sensitivity and gives a different perspective on our understanding of odors:

1. Odor is tested and reported as a sum of all detected compounds, referred to as Total Volatile Organic Compounds. Samples are collected on diffusive badges and returned to our laboratory for analysis. The typical sampling time is 5-8 hours for industrial air and 24 hours for the assessment of Indoor Air Quality in Offices and Residential homes. We offer a sensitivity of 0.05 – 0.5 mg/m³, which depends on the duration of sampling. The price starts from $150 (2021), which makes this the most affordable option

2. VOCs are collected on adsorbent tubes or diffusive samplers. Samples are extracted and EVERY detected solvent is individually identified and quantified using Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometry. The sensitivity of this test is 0.01-0.02 mg/m³. The cost starts from $700 (2021)

3. VOCs are collected on stainless steel Thermal Desorption tubes and analyzed by Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometry identification of each solvent.  Sampling time is 0.5-2 hours. Sensitivity ranges from 0.001 to 0.010 mg/m³. Lead time is 5 days, as we need to order fresh media for each order. This is the most expensive and the most sensitive test with a starting price of $900
