At LCS Laboratory Inc., we are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in air sampling equipment calibration. To ensure the precision and reliability of the instruments we service, we utilize three distinct types of air flow calibrators in our quality assurance process. These calibrators cover a wide flow rate range from 0.005 to 17 L/min, meeting the diverse calibration requirements of most air sampling pumps. Below is an overview of the calibrators we employ:
Rotameters
Rotameters are cost-effective and efficient tools for measuring air flow rates. These calibrators offer a typical accuracy range of 3% to 5%, aligning with the NIOSH requirement of ± 5% error. Each rotameter is verified against a primary standard and comes with a current verification certificate. Our rotameters cover three ranges:
- 0.002-0.180 L/min
- 0.5-3.0 L/min
- 3-17 L/min
While reliable and simple to use, rotameters are temperature-sensitive and are not recommended for use in extreme temperature conditions. They are an integral part of our calibration workflow for routine applications.
Primary Flow Calibrators (Bubble Technique)
The bubble technique is one of the most precise methods available, achieving a typical error margin of 1% to 2%. These calibrators are essential for ensuring the accuracy of our air sampling equipment. The nominal calibration range is 0.01 to 6 L/min, with the following considerations:
- Low Flow Rates: Calibration below 0.05 L/min is time-intensive.
- High Flow Rates: Above 3 L/min, soap bubbles become unstable and burst.
Due to their high cost and the need for regular manufacturer re-calibration, these instruments are primarily used for calibrating other calibration devices. They perform best under controlled, room-temperature conditions.
Primary Flow Calibrators (Low Flow DryCal)
DryCal calibrators combine high accuracy and user-friendliness, with a typical error margin of 1% to 2%. They are particularly suited for low flow rate applications, with a calibration range of 0.01 to 0.5 L/min. Each DryCal unit is accompanied by a calibration certificate and charger. However, older models may become obsolete if the manufacturer discontinues support, making re-calibration impossible. These calibrators are also best used at room temperature.
At LCS Laboratory Inc., our commitment to quality extends to the calibration tools we use to support our clients. These instruments play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the rental equipment we service. If you have any questions or require more information, please contact us.
