LCS Laboratory Inc. frequently analyzes samples of “popcorn” textured ceiling paint, and our findings show a high likelihood of asbestos in these samples, particularly when the paint was manufactured before 1981. In some cases, asbestos is even found in paints produced as late as 1985, as leftover stock may have been used. If you’re concerned about asbestos in your textured ceiling, our lab can help you confirm its presence with a reliable test.
How to Collect and Submit Your Popcorn Ceiling Paint Sample
To submit a sample for asbestos analysis, please follow these steps:
- Collect the Sample
Scrape a small amount of paint (about 1 square inch) from your ceiling, aiming to gather approximately 1/4 teaspoon of paint dust. Place the sample into a clean, sealed Ziploc bag. - Label the Bag
Clearly label the bag with a description, such as “kitchen ceiling,” to help identify the sample. - Complete the Request Form
Download and fill out our Request for Analysis form. This form will accompany your sample. - Send Your Sample
Place the sample bag and the completed form in a padded envelope, then mail it to our laboratory in London, Ontario. - Receive Your Results
Once we receive your sample, we’ll email you an electronic invoice. You can conveniently pay online by credit card or Interac. Upon payment, we’ll test your sample and send a detailed report to your email.
