LCS Laboratory Inc., offers laboratory testing of Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) on surface wipe samples.  PAH’s are aromatic compounds from naphthalene and higher. There are several hundreds PAH’s including very complex branched hydrocarbons. EPA selected 16 PAH’s into a priority list based on their dominant presence in coal tar:

coal-tarMost PAH’s are carcinogens and are strictly regulated.

PAH sampling is commonly used in Industrial Hygiene to measure surface contamination in asphalt industry, coal tar production, and fire investigation.

PAH samples are collected from a non-porous surfaces like glass, stainless steel or ceramic.  Use wipe sampling technique on the area of  100 cm². Alcohol Pads (wipes) with 70% Isopropanol are ideal for collection of oily deposits. Protect your samples from direct light. Use a glass container for shipping. Our laboratory requires at least 2 samples: one sample from the area of concern and one blank sample for analysis. Our laboratory uses uses HPLC UV/FLD for detection and quantification of PAH’s. The testing procedure is based on NIOSH 5506 procedure with modification for surface sampling.
