sampling tubesLCS Laboratory Inc., offers air sampling tubes, pumps and laboratory testing of peracetic acid. With 18 years in Industrial Hygiene laboratory testing, we deliver only the highest quality results.

Peracetic acid is volatile and from a health and safety perspective, it combines the corrosive properties of organic acid and oxidizing properties of organic peroxides. Peracetic acid is used mainly in the food industry, where it is applied as a cleanser and as a disinfectant. In North America peracetic acid is used as an antimicrobial treatment for hard surfaces.  It is also applied as a disinfectant of medical supplies, to prevent biofilm formation in pulp industries, and as a water purifier and disinfectant (Wikipedia).

Peracetic acid causes skin, eye, and lung irritation and at higher concentrations in the air will also cause severe chemical burns.

In water solutions, Peracetic Acid exists in chemical equilibrium with acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide.

It is common to detect peracetic acid,  acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide in the vapor phase.

Short Term Exposure Limit (STEL) for peracetic acid is set at 0.4 ppm as inhalable vapor and mist (Ontario 2017). Hydrogen peroxide can interfere with the analysis and therefore the peracetic acid samples are collected using specialty tubes with a Hydrogen Peroxide removal pre-filter. Samples are collected at 1 L/min for 15-20 minutes.
