Particle Size convention
LCS Laboratory is proud to be the only commercial laboratory (as per 2016) in North America that offers size selective sampling for thoracic dust. The World Health Organisation defines thoracic dust as “that fraction that can penetrate the head airways and enter the airways of the lung”. According to the International Convention the thoracic fraction of dust has a mass median diameter of 10 micron. Particle size of Thoracic dust is smaller than an Inhalable fraction, but twice larger than of Respirable dust. In Ontario, Canada, only 2 materials are regulated as Thoracic dust (2103): Cotton and Sulfuric Acid.
