vermiculite

vermiculite

LCS Laboratory Inc., offers fast and affordable testing of vermiculite for asbestos. The test is commonly used by home buyers, sellers, home inspectors, and safety consultants.

Safety first. When you take a sample, presume the worst and protect yourself from asbestos. Asbestos is the most toxic when you inhale it. To be safe and just in case, you should wear N100 or P100 dust mask. If you do not have one, you can buy them in a hardware store or borrow from your neighbor.

Collect a Vermiculite sample (Note: If you need to test a construction material other than vermiculite, please visit a different page ). Asbestos crystals that are found in vermiculate have a higher density than the rest of the insulation. Eventually, the asbestos sunk close to the bottom of the insulation layer and concentrated along the floor. In order to detect the presence of asbestos, please dig through the insulation layer and scoop loose insulation from the attic floor. You need to collect about a cup of vermiculite and place it in a sandwich size Ziploc bag. Label the bag with a permanent marker like: “Attic insulation above kitchen”. If you want to test more than one sample, each sample should be placed in a separate bag.

Keep Records. Download a “request for analysis form”, and complete your name, phone, and email address. Select how fast do you need your results back, list all the samples that you are testing. Sign the form. Keet a copy for your own record.

Prepare Your Shipment. Place the samples and the signed request form into a larger Ziploc freezer bag. Place the package into a padded envelope or a box, and ship it for laboratory analysis to
