What is the Asbestos Clearance Test?
The “Asbestos Clearance Test” is an official procedure under Ontario Asbestos Regulation 278-05. This test is essential for verifying that asbestos abatement efforts were successful, ensuring that the residual concentration of asbestos fibres is below the regulated harmful limit of 0.01 fibres per centimetre cube (ff/cc). Following analysis, the findings are detailed in an official Asbestos Clearance Air Quality Report.
Typical Results and Recommendations
- 80% of tested homes: Show fibre concentrations between 0.001 and 0.007 ff/cc, well below the harmful threshold. This indicates negligible exposure to asbestos fibres.
- 10% of tested homes: Show fibre concentrations between 0.007 and 0.010 ff/cc. Although still compliant, these levels are close to the limit. We recommend wet cleaning and sealing potential dust sources.
- Above 0.010 ff/cc: Requires thorough cleaning of the property, followed by additional air sampling to confirm safety.
