Ingredient Disclosure Testing

Ensure Accurate Asbestos Testing by Sampling Strategically. When testing your home for asbestos, it’s often necessary to take multiple samples of the same material to confirm it is free from asbestos. In Ontario, this practice is mandated by Ontario Regulation 278/05, which outlines the number of duplicate samples required for reliable analysis.

Why Sample from Different Locations? When collecting multiple samples, it’s best to take them from different areas of your home rather than gathering pieces located just inches apart. This approach ensures a more accurate assessment of the material throughout the property, as asbestos content can vary even within the same type of material.

Example: Floor Tiles
Consider floor tiles installed in different rooms, such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom. To verify the tiles are asbestos-free:

  • Collect a sample from each room.
  • Submit all samples to our laboratory for analysis.

If all samples test negative for asbestos, the material across those areas can be deemed asbestos-free. However, if even one sample shows detectable asbestos, the entire area covered with those tiles should be treated as though it contains asbestos to ensure safety.
