LCS Laboratory offers professional authoring of the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in full compliance with Canadian and USA standards. All materials that are produced, generated or sold in North America should be offered with SDS prepared in compliance with local regulation. For example, if your product made in Canada and sold in USA, the SDS should reflect requirements of USA regulation.

The SDS slowly replaces old style safety documents, formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). SDS is very similar to MSDS: it still requires product identification, composition, properties, toxicology,  exposure limits, environmental hazards and other parameters.  The major difference is that SDS is built on requirements of Globally Harmonized System (GHS) developed by United Nations. GHS establishes the same safety terminology for all participating countries.

Burning dustThe SDS authoring service is supported by our laboratory testing capability and several decades of experience in research and industrial chemistry. We can test your product for it chemical, physical properties, transportation class, and packaging group.

Typical workflow includes the following steps:

  1. Please tell  us what your product is made of. You can send us SDS’s for the ingredients of your product, or provide a chemical assays.
    • Chemical composition of your product is critical. Without knowing what chemicals and materials are used, we cannot assess chemical safety of your product
    • If the chemical composition is unknown, we can identify the components. Please be aware that material identification is not always possible, extremely expensive and time consuming process.  We recommend to use this approach only when chemical composition is unknown and cannot be recovered from your supplier’s record.
  2. Please give us available information on your product. You might have old MSDS’s, SDS’s from supplier, and physical properties of your product that you measured in house. All this information is extremely valuable and will save you a lot of time and money. It creates a basis for all following work.
  3. LCS Laboratory analyses the case and produces a formal quote for the project. Once the quote is approved by the client we can start the project.
  4. LCS Laboratory performs literature search for material properties that are required for SDS preparation:
    • Physical properties
    • Toxicological properties
  5. IMG_8952Properties that cannot be found in literature, but still essential for material classification are tested by LCS Laboratory and reported to the client. The findings are included in SDS.
  6. If the hazardous class and packaging group are unknown, we offer laboratory tests for Class 3, 4, and 8. The classification results are incorporated into the SDS.
  7. SDS is prepared by the third party consultants
  8. LCS Laboratory reviews the SDS and communicates necessary changes and improvements.
  9. The Safety Data Sheet is released to the client.

The above procedure is unique to the safety industry, and allows us to deliver the most accurate SDS’s on the market. If you need SDS for your product, please contact us for no obligation quote.
