Vitamin A

Vitamin A

LCS Laboratory has validated a method for sampling and laboratory testing of Vitamin A (Retinyl Acetate) and D3  (Cholecalciferol). The Vitamins are collected as Inhalable Dust on a 25 mm PTFE filter with a pore size of 0.45 to 2 micron, at a sampling flow rate of 2 L/min. Both Vitamins can be collected and analysed off the same filter. The reporting limits are:

  • Vitamin A : 10 ug/sample, and
  • Vitamin D3: 2 ug/sample
Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3

The occupational Exposure Limits for Vitamins A and D3 are not established in North America (2016). In the meantime it is quite easy to estimate that if the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) (Health Canada 2016) per day of Vitamin D3 is 100 µg/day (microgram), its concentration in air should not exceed 5-10 µg/m³. Similarly, if the Reference Daily Intake (RDI) for Vitamin A is estimated at 1000 µg/day, its concentration in air should not exceed 50-100 µg/m³. Those very crude estimates are consistent to the order of magnitude with Internal Occupational Exposure Limits accepted by some industries (confidential document, 1998)

LCS Laboratory offers you air sampling pumps, sampling media and laboratory testing for the measurement of Vitamin A and/or D3 levels in industrial air.  Please email us to request a free quote.
