LCS Laboratory offers trace analysis of Vinyl Acetate and Ethanol in Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVAl). Poly Vinyl Alcohol is typically produced in two stages. First, vinyl acetate is polymerized into poly vinyl acetate (PVAc), and the resulting poly vinyl acetate is converted to PVAl. The conversion of the PVAc is usually conducted by base-catalyzed transesterification with ethanol. The resulting PVAl may contain traces of vinyl acetate monomer, ethanol, and ethyl acetate.

Our laboratory offers chemical analysis of Poly Vinyl Alcohol for residual Vinyl Acetate and Ethanol concentration. During the test, the sample is extracted and the solution is analysed for solvents, using gas chromatography. Other volatile components, if present, can be analysed during the same test. Our typical detection limit is 5 mg of solvent per kg of PVAl.
