37mm sampling cassetteLCS Laboratory offers ready-to-use air sampling kits for Air Quality testing on construction/demolition sites.

A typical kit includes 2-15 portable air sampling pumps, hoses, cassette holders, and various filters to collect different types of dust common for construction sites. The kit is developed for health and safety professionals with previous experience in air-sampling. While air sampling itself is relatively straightforward, and we put all efforts to add as many sampling manuals as we can, it is still very important that you have previous experience in air sampling and can use laboratory results to evaluate your workplace safety and prepare a safety report.

Typical sampling takes 4-6 hours. Air quality and workload should be typical and representative. For example, you do not want to collect samples after hours, when the work is done, or during a rainy day when water mist keeps the dust down.

The most common tests address workers’ exposure for:

  1. Welding Fumes; Sampling on 37 mm MCE cassettes by NIOSH o500 procedure followed by a metal scan for 12 -26 metals by NIOSH 7301 using ICP AES procedure
  2. Respirable Welding Fumes; This test is focused on 3 metals: Iron Oxide, Aluminum and Zinc, which are regulated as respirable fraction. Sampling is performed on 37 mm MCE cassettes with cyclone by NIOSH 0600 procedure followed by a metal scan for 3 metals by NIOSH 7301 using ICP AES procedure
  3. Respirable dust
  4. Respirable silica. Construction sand and gravel may contain up to 90% of crystalline silica, in the form of Quartz. Silica dust precipitates in worker’s lungs and may cause silicosis.  Concentration of respirable fraction of the quartz in the air is regulated by the Ministry of Labour
  5. Wood Dust; This can be created in significant amounts during framing or demolition
  6. Lead dust; Typically produced by old paint during renovation or demolition
  7. Glass fibers; These can be inhaled when new insulation is installed or old glass panels are removed.
  8. IMG_20180430_134405034Asbestos fibers; These are typically present in all buildings built before 1985.

We also offer full service testing, performed by a professional Air Quality Specialist. Service includes: site visit to discuss your project, quotation, collection of the air samples, submitting the samples to our laboratory, completion of the report.

If you work for different industry and need customized service, we will be happy to assist. Please contact us to order your kit from our laboratory or review the list of available kits.
